Martin Bullock Lawyers loves diversity and tolerance. What better way to practice these values than to take part in Australia’s annual celebration of community, Neighbour Day!
Neighbour Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in March every year. This year’s theme is “Loneliness: What neighbours can do to create connections”. Social connection makes everybody feel better, preventing loneliness, isolation and depression.
The event aims to foster communication between neighbours, and is the perfect opportunity to connect with the people you might never otherwise speak to.
To help you get involved with Neighbour Day this year, here are a few suggestions for conversation tips:
- Compliment your neighbour, perhaps on their house, pets, car or garden
- Listen to your neighbour – focus on what they are saying, not what you should say next, to keep the conversation flowing.
- Pay attention to current affairs, news, neighbourhood events and changes, and keep them in mind – they’re great conversation starters.
- Silence doesn’t signal the doom of a conversation – breaks in chats are natural, and allow both parties to refocus or introduce new topics.
