New laws due to come into force in New South Wales later this year will make “strangulation” an offence. This is an important change that is aimed at protecting victims of domestic violence.
The government will also introduce changes to apprehended domestic violence orders, increasing the duration of time they will remain in force from one year to two years. Police will be given greater powers to vary orders between court appearances in an effort to better protect victims of domestic violence.
