For most of us, the idea of being arrested fills us with a nameless dread.
But not for Josie Birds, a 93 year-old from Manchester in the UK.
Earlier this year, police “arrested” Ms Birds for robbery. She was handcuffed and taken to the station. However, rather than being thrown in a jail cell, she was instead given tea and cake.
The arrest fulfilled Ms Birds’ dying wish. A law-abiding citizen, she “wanted to know what it was like to be naughty”.
Ms Birds’ granddaughter organised with the Greater Manchester Police for the arrest to take place. Afterwards, she thanked the police for granting her grandmother’s wish, saying:
A big thank you Manchester Police for ‘arresting’ my Gran. She is 93 years old and her health is failing, and she wanted to be arrested for something before it’s too late. She wanted to have an experience to remember! She’s a star.
